프랑스 파리. 퐁텐블로를 꿈꾸며...
이곳저곳 눈도장(요즘말로 스펙?)찍기가 여행인줄 알았던 20대때라면 또 모를까.
지금 프랑스 파리 가라고 하면 가고 싶은 마음 전혀 않고,
간다고 해도 퐁네프 다리 그런거 보고 싶지도 않고,
에펠탑앞에서 사진찍거나 몽마르뜨 언덕 걸으면서 폼잡고 싶지도 않고...
그래도 꼭 어쩔 수 없이 가야된다고 하면, 저는 파리 인근에 있는 퐁텐블로 숲에 가보고 싶습니다.

퐁텐블로 숲은 하강기나 볼더링이나 암벽화 그리고 카라비너 각각 분야에 등장한 '피에르 알렝Pierre Allain'의 숲이니까요.
피에르 알렝은 위키피디아에 의하면,
1. 퐁텐블로 숲에서 알프스 등반을 준비하기 위해서가 아니라 그자체의 즐거움을 위해 볼더링을 하고 개발했다.
2. 1949년 알피니즘과 경쟁'이라는 책을 냈다.
3. 최초의 암벽화라고 하는 PAs 개발. 1930년대.
4. 1950년대 최초의(?) 합금 카라비너 개발
5. 피에르 알렝 하강기 개발.
하켄이야 원래 있던 하켄이고,
피에르 알렝은 이렇게 보면 당시에 해결할 수 있는 결핍을 거의 해결한 아주 창의적인 클라이머인 것 같습니다.
Pierre Allain (1904 – 2000) was a French alpinist who began climbing in the 1920s. In the 1930s he was joined by several others at Fontainebleau, where his group of "'Bleausards" developed a love of bouldering that went beyond simple training for the Alps. The famous Allain Angle (V2 - V3), done in 1934, is a testament to their dedication and to the resulting elevation of standards. In Allain's 1949 book, Alpinisme et Competition, he expresses his appreciation of this simple and understated climbing specialty. To facilitate the rock-climbing experience he developed – in the 1930s - the first rubber-soled, soft shoes specifically engineered for serious rock work. He wore these on the sandstone boulders as well as on the granite walls of the Alps, where he made several famous first ascents, including the north face of the Aiguille du Dru. These shoes, known as "PAs", became the model for future generations of climbing footware. Indeed, the version available in the 1950s looked remarkably like modern climbing footwear. In the 1950s Allain opened a mountaineering store in Paris, where, among other items, he offered the first modern alloy carabiners. Prior to that time, these indispensable snaplinks were made of heavy steel. However, when Allain's name comes up these days, it is frequently in connection with his pioneering bouldering efforts at Fontainebleau.

저도 종로에서 우연히 국내에서 무거운 쇠로 만든 제품을 발견해 소장하고 있습니다. 언제 실물을 찍어서 올리도록 하겠습니다.
피에르 알렝에 관한 자료가 더 있으면 좋겠는데 아쉽네요.....
매일경제 <자유여행 퐁텐블로 파리 근교에서 만난 동화같은 풍경>. 이라는 기사에는 물론 이런 내용 전혀 없죠.
그래도 이 기사를 보며 문득 퐁텐블로 숲이 떠올랐습니다.
